wood frame on house

Post by Kathie Williams » Thu Apr 10, 2003 7:50 am

The wood frame part on the house seems like it is rotting out. I would like to know if I can fix it myself or do I need someone to do it for me. I also need to know how to fix it.

Thank-you

Kathy it depends on where the damage is and to what extent. If it is the lap siding than you can remove some and see what the extent is. Can you repair it yourself, that depends on the extent of the damage and how comfortable you feel with the process. When you go to repair it make sure you fix the cause as well as the problem. Poor drainage or roof runoff can result in a lot of damage over a short period of time. Be aware that once you uncover the site you are probably going to find the damage is wider than you expect. I had a roof section that was rotted around a vent tube and ended up replacing 100 sq feet of plywood, new flashing and shingles so a bigger job than I thought but not that difficult to do. If you have the tools the will and the time most things can be done.
