which is better option

Post by dianajobson » Sun Oct 30, 2011 3:52 pm

My husband added a room on our 14x60 mobile. he has since died in aug & roof in add on is leaking horribly. No one can fix it apparently. I owe 17500 on home. options as i see them...1. let the bank take it. 2. trade in mobile, if anyone does that and buy a new one. 3. pay someone to rip off room and repair side of home.
Anyone willing to give me some advice or input????

It seems possible that there is another alternative, which may be the least costly over all. Ask 3 or 4 roofing contractors what they would do to fix the problem and how much it will cost. By getting several estimates you will be able to weed out the contractors that might inflate the project.

It is impossible for me to tell why the roof is leaking but I have done roof repairs that consisted of nothing more than sealing the place where the addition roof meets the original home. If the addition is new, chances are the new roof is not all bad and that the fix could be easy and economical.

Don't let the bank take your home. Find an honorable local roofer.

thanks u for your reply. the room addition is 8 years old. it was built flat (????) and since my husband is not here to ask, one can only wonder. i have had two people look at it...telling me it was not fixable since there is no slope in it. I want to stay in TN...the alternative being move in with my children back in Fl. this is the home my husband and I made together and do not want to ruin my good credit rating, especially now that I am alone. Do I continue to call roofers, looking for the one who will take a chance? I've never had to worry on these things as my husband did all the home repairs. thanks for any advice

dianna,

we're sorry to hear about your loss. hope all is well. in answer to your question I would suggest that either a family member or neighbor possibly an old friend could stop by and resolve the leak problem to ensure dryness. it isn't anything that cannot be fixed without the proper help. be assured it can be fixed. wish you well.
