Coleman / Evcon furnace A/C problem

Post by jmcvicar » Mon Aug 01, 2011 8:31 am

I have a Colman furnace (1996) and the A/C unit stopped working. Troubleshooting found bad capacitor. Replaced and all began to work again...EXCEPT... now the auto ignitor comes on and stays on.(this shouldn't come on at all when thermostat is in 'COOL' position)

Furthermore, the system trips the outside 30A breaker about once every hour or so. Looking 'everywhere' for someone that may have had a similar experience.

Sounds like you have 2 separate thermostats.. one for the Air and one for the heat. Ther may be a second thermostat built into the furnace to pre-ignite when it gets below a set temperature.... Your furnace needs to be shut down during the months when you are using the Air.

Pull the face cover off the furnace and you should see an on-off switch. Put it in the off position.
