Wall construction

Post by JB_Orchidguy » Sun Jan 02, 2011 7:47 pm

I own a 1999 Fleetwood doublewide manufactured home.I was having trouble with the dishwasher and in the process of taking it out put a small home behind it by pulling on the power line.

I started inspecting the hole and moved the insulation away. I notied styrofoam on the other side of the wall. Upon further inspection I noticed I was touching the siding through the styrofoam. I go outside and lift part of the siding and see the foam. The wall is mearly sheetrock on one side and the foam covered by siding on the other.

Is this within code? I could not find the code anywhere online. I would assume there should be a board covereing the studs before the foam and siding is placed. I am very frustrated right now becasue this to me is very unsafe. Any help would be great. Thanks

Josh

Actually not even the foam is required..There are many different construction systems used..The code is a performance code, it dictates how the components of the home are to preform. It does not say exactly how to achieve these standards..
Most of the higher quality homes do use an osb exterior wrap often with 2x6 exterior studs..Many of the homes meet the code with 2x4 studs, no wrap and only siding to make it weather tight..Take your siding off and wrap the home if it makes you feel better..
