Clayton "Yes" Homes

Post by Su » Sat May 09, 2009 8:40 pm

Monday I will be purchasing a 2009 home for my son and his wife. The home was delivered to a Saddleback owned park today. It is a 16 x 72 in the high 30's that the park manager says was purchased by the park's management and more will be coming in. They are bringing in newer homes and upgrading the park. The owners went to the manufacturer in Texas and these are apparently specially made. They won't have garden tubs or separate showers, but have lovely black appliances, a laundry room and a pantry wall. Look very nice, although we couldn't do a walk through since the steps were not in place as yet. I asked who the manufacturer is and was told it is a Clayton Yes home. But when I tried to find a floor plan on line I found nothing listed under that name except the "Yes Communities". As far as I know we don't have a Yes Community here in Pueblo, Co. Do you know anything about these homes? Also, I keep seeing somewhat negative comments about Clayton sales reps on line, but I won't be dealing with them since this will be an owner carry loan with $3000 down. As far as quality, how do they stand? I am a little uneasy since this is my first manufactured home purchase. I plan to look in the library tomorrow for Mr. Grissom's book, but I have a time crunch due to the lease being up June 1 on my son's current housing and don't want to lose this home site which has tall cottonwoods on the front and back of the home. I think the trees will help shade in summer and protect from snow in winter. Will the trees affect the level of the home and should the level be rechecked periodically? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I want to thank you all for the info I found on formaldehyde. It helped put some of my concerns in perspective.
Thank you,
Su

Clayton is the worlds biggest producer of manufactured homes... Clayton builds a wide range of homes, from the low to the high end BUT I have never heard of a Clayton Yes....

I would be reluctant to commit to any home that I had not walked through. It is silly that there is not a set of stairs at the door so that you can view the inside. In my mind this tells me either management is not wantingt you to see inside yet or someone is not thinking about customer convenience. Either way I would wait till the home is viewable befoere making any committments.

Some new homes need to be releveld in the first year some never need to be releveld. This depends on soil conditions, site preperation and the experience and knowledge of the installer. Trees are not a factor.

If you dont see Grissims books in your library you can get them both at a special 2 for one price here

Thanks so much for responding so quickly. I didn't think to mention that the home had just been delivered (we saw it show up) and the manager had just completed her walk through with the delivery staff. The stairs were to be available soon. I think she was concerned with our safety. I don't know if she was also concerned because the home hadn't been secured to the pads as yet. I am hoping that stairs will be there when I go in the morning. In any case, If stairs are not available I think I will ask her to "borrow" a set from the older home we did view. I think I will throw a step stool in my car trunk in the morning just in case!

I definitely agree I need to walk through before signing on the dotted line. I also want to see the specs on the home. Especially since I couldn't find any info on line about a Yes home. I have read a great deal today online and feel a bit more confident about what to look for. My library doesn't carry Mr Grissim's book, but they now plan to get it. I read the "teaser" of the book online and it was excellent. Thank you for the link to the site.

Gratefully,
Su
