I have a 1990's Skyline 26x52 Manufactured home. I am very happy with it, and love my present location. I work at a lumber yard here in Michigan. I have access to some attic trusses. I would like to add these to my house. I have a block foundation, 2x6 exterior walls, just wondered if my block foundation would hold the weight of these trusses? I am somewhat embarassed to ask my fellow workers, not living in a "normal" house. Also wondered if my stock furnace would be enough to heat, tow stories in the home.
I also looked at the idea of lifting the home and adding a basement? Does anyone know how to do that, if it is possible, prices????
Thank you,
Waylon1979
add attic space to manufactured home?
Re: add attic space to manufactured home?
You are probably more of a builder than I...But your home is not engineered for a second story...You might want to consult with a professional engineer ( instead of co-worker) for advice on such a complex question...Your home could be retrofitted with a basement...Again a professional engineer should be able to help design a safe foundation system...By the way...your home is likely far better built than the "normal" home you mentioned...Just remember your home was moved to your land from a factory hundreds of miles away over highways at about 70 miles per hour...Think what would happen to your co-workers "normal" house moving like this...

Re: About adding a basement
Adding a basement can double your living space. For a step by step overview of how this is done you can visit Mark Bower's site and read Adding a Basement to your Mobile Home will give you a good idea of how basement can be added.
