After a recent flood that soaked the insulation under our home, but did not actually reach the flooring, I am interested in replacing the plastic vapor barrier and batt insulation with expandable foam insulation. Is this a viable alternative? Are there special concerns that must be addressed before application? Is there a do-it-yourself process available to the home owner or is this a contractor only process? I am really wanting the sound proofing, increased R value and possible increased regidity to the flooring.
Thank You

Re: Floor Insulation
Liquid foam insulation materials can be sprayed, foamed-in-place, injected, or poured. Their ability to fill even the smallest cavities gives them twice the R-value per inch than traditional batt insulation.
Liquid foam insulation products and installation usually cost more than traditional batt insulation. However, liquid foam insulation also forms an air barrier. This can help eliminate some of the other costs and tasks associated with weatherizing a home, such as caulking, applying housewrap and vapor barrier, and taping joints.
