Skirting Replacement

Post by robbieridner » Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:26 pm

Recent storms have caused alot of problems with our skirting. I am wanting to replace it and put concrete block. I have looked around the house and there is enough room do it. The one problem I have is that when they put the pier blocks in, some edges of the footer sticks out past the edge of the house. This caused some of the hold down straps to be right up against the skirting. When I dig a footer the block can I pour concrete over the straps and anchors. The house will not be unless for reasons it no one can live in it. I can pour around them if necessary but it would be much easier to pour over them. Any help would be appreciated.

You really should work around the anchors, so that they may be adjusted and or tightened as need be.

Your anchors should not be installed in the concrete footings. I know many installers do, but that is not how the anchors are designed and if the installer used J hooks, how was the concrete re-enforced? As far as holding capacity, to reach the required 4750 lbs, you would need to have 1 1/4 yards of concrete per anchor.

If you still don't believe me, look in your installation manual, see how they tell you how to install anchors.

The most substantial skirting system around is System-1 skirting by Hoffman Concrete. System-1 is what skirting should be- 100% solid concrete. System-1 is not an imitation or a look alike – it is the original concrete skirting system that resists the elements from the summer heat of Texas to the harsh winters of Minnesota. System-1 is built to last and is designed to stay put for years of dependable service.
