Storm Damage

Hello Everyone,

I am asking this question about a home my brother is considering buying. This home is in Tennessee and was picked up and dropped back down in a storm. NO one lives in the home and no repairs have been made since the storm except connecting water and power back up. They are asking one price for the home and 4 acreas of land, around middle 50's . MY question is what should my brother do to find out how much damage was sustained by the storm. Coould he get a copy of the insurance company report on the home


. Would you think the home would have to meet certain specs before the county would give him a permit to live in this home. PLease respond with your comments. I have given my brother this website and told him about the books and repair parts and maybe he will ask his own questions. THanks for your time.

As far as insurance reports are concerned...He will have to ask the seller of the home....If the home was totalled...Check with the local title office about salvage titles if they exist in your state....Depending on the extent of the damage he might want to have a professional home inspector do a report..They will discover any hidden damage...

You are right to worry about the local government...The only place to get proper info about zoning (in case it has changed and the home is damaged beyond the grandfather clause in the code) and building codes to be able to get final certificate of occupancy...The ONLY place to get accurate info on the above is from the local county code enforcement officer...
