New Air Conditioner

Post by moserls » Thu Aug 24, 2006 8:33 am

I am replacing my Nordyne air conditioning unit and am being told that I can replace the outside unit with whatever I wish, but that my only options on the inside portion are Coleman or Intertherm (Nordyne). I want to get the best upgrade I can since I hope to retire with this home, and am concerned about putting a high priced exterior unit in without matching the quality with the indoor portion. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it true that MH code restricts my options on the interior parts?

Thanks!

All air conditioning used in manufactured housing, must be approved for use in manufactured housing. That being said, the two main suppliers are Nordyne and Coleman (Evcon). When condensing units and coils are mismatched, they may well not perform as needed. The btu rating may not in fact, be the output on a mismatched system, and many systems are not designed to interact with each other. Your best bet is to purchase a matched system, ie, the same inside coil, as outside condensing unit. This will save you problems in the long run.
