New Home Siding

Post by tngilmer » Thu Aug 24, 2006 5:01 am

My wife and I have decided to purchase a new Patriot Pinnacle home - Kennedy model. The only option we are still debating is whether to go with standard vinyl siding or upgrade to hardboard siding. The home will be located in south central Tennessee - a generally temperate area. The only home I have had in the past is brick. I would appreciate any suggestions as to which we should choose.

I have sold many "HardiPlank" sided homes...The siding from the James Hardie Company is concrete based (90% concrete 10% fiber for strength)...It will be painted which should offer you scores of color combinations....The siding if installed correctly comes with a 50 year warranty...Its advantage is that the lap looks better than vinyl and it can easily be painted so you can change the look of your home someday...Its disadvantage is that it has to be painted someday in the future..Since it is concrete..wore out paint will not hurt the siding like wood...Also it will not take a lot of paint...The folks who have bought this siding from me all love it..

I purchase the Patriot Bluebonnet series Mockingbird home from Patriot of Texas. Hardi Siding was my choice and it has been a year since it was installed and it looks very nice. It should also hold up well to the elements. I installed a standalone garage and the siding matches very nicely. There are several brands of James Hardi siding and mine was the "beaded" type. It is a little more expensive than the regular JH plain siding. Not sure if you have a choice. Go for the upgrades elsewhere also. I have been very satisfied with my home and the fit and finish of this home was better than some of the site built homes.
