Exterior Door Replacement
Exterior Door Replacement
I am in the process of purchasing a MH in Florida. The manufacture (Homes of Merit) informed my sales rep that the cottage door that leads outside has to swing outward now do to HUD code. They use to let you have the door swing inward if you signed a wavier. This is something I'm not very happy with and would like to have the door replaced once I move it so it swings inward to the kitchen and I will then put a screen door on. Does anyone know if this can be done or if it's a HUD code will they not allow an owner to change it. Also, would I be risking water problems by making such a change.
Re: Exterior Door Replacement
I don't know if that's HUD code or not. Ask the sales rep to show you where in the code it says that. Maybe it does say that due to a fire code or something, but my experience is that sales rep will say about anything to keep from doing changes they don't want to do. I know -- I use to sell mobile homes and the company told us to say stuff like that all the time because changes at the factory were frowned upon (back then anyway).
Otherwise, changing doors without them leaking is done all the time. Just take your time and think everything out.
