2 Singlewides to make 1 doublewide

My husband and I were looking at putting an addition on our older (much older) singlewide, but thought that it might be easier to just put 2 singlewides together and make one doublewide. We would buy a used, older doublewide to do this. There are no codes or anyone that we have to deal with where we live so the type of home we live in is not gonna be an issue. There is no specific webpages that will help with this mod. I have seen many attempts at this over the years, and most of them have troubles of one sort or another. Leaks are a major problem as is shifting if the two sections are not on concrete pads. In my opinion, unless they are joined by a professional contractor who is experienced in this sort of mod, its more headaches than its worth. I can tell you there are contractors that do this, and do a fine job, but they are very rare and deal with newer homes only. Tom

we have done a few of these.. the main problem is the leaks....as for the attachment of the homes ,,to get the best fit you must remove all the metal on the ajoining walls (much like a double wide)...I would STRONGLY recommend you get someone that has done this a few time before..(for safety reasons)
