elimination of manufactured homes

Post by Janet Bean » Tue Dec 04, 2001 4:34 pm

Our town council has recently drafted a community comprehensive plan that calls for the elimination of all manufactured housing within the town's limits. Has anyone else come across this type of biggotry and know how to fight it? I would appreciate any suggestions as to agencies to turn to, actions to take, et cetera. Thanks.

Please see comments directly below your posting headed "M-H News Dot Com". It's ALL ABOUT REVENUE!!!!!!! We need to get very vocal with these arrogant bureaucrats - and the manufactured housing industry needs to take an aggressive stance also. Americans have become so submissive that nobody ever questions why - i.e., why is it you can't discriminate based on ethnicity, gender, etc., but it's all right to discriminate based on the type of housing one lives in?. Why do we just take it for granted that the government can force us to pay them money (taxes) based on the value of our land/car and then if we don't pay, the thugs can confiscate it. Why? How did we get to this place? Somebody has said that the government is the only entity authorized to steal from us and use violence against us when we resist. Wake up, folks! This isn't the country we had 200 years ago - or even 20 years ago! Zoning laws are discriminatory and government officials who take an oath of office to uphold the U.S. Constitution are in direct violation of that oath. I'd like to see some of these parasites hauled before a grand jury to answer for it. In the meantime --- LET'S ALL GET VERY VOCAL about this!

Hey, Janet, what town do you live in? Eileen's right. You need to call or write or go in person and let your council members know your views on their discrimnatory votes.

You're right. Elected officials have more and more control over our lives and when they can keep you from living in a certain kind of house for whatever reason, there's something bad wrong.

As someone who deals with zoning issues in the Manufactured Housing industry and works for an association, I agree that involvment is the key.
Many towns have seen the quality and style of our homes but, the the bean counter in the town says that the tax base will be hurt.

Call your state association and have them get involved. It is important to everyone who is in the MH housing industry and thoes folks who have invested in our homes.

What is the purpose for the City Council taking such an action. They would have had to provide a public exigency purpose for taking such and action, i.e., safety, property value, etc...

I did not know of this subject until I "browsed" the mobile home subject. I was seeking a mobile home personals page where senior singles living in mobile home life style could meet each other... Then I saw your article... and others.

I happen to agree with all you said. I think we need to hold our elected officials to keep their promises to get our vote. How this can be done ? I think there needs to be more people support. That is how this great country got started: the people , togther we had a voice that the King of England finally heard. Unfortuneatle, it took a war... violence.. I hope we can find a way to get our elected "leaders" to hear us without a repitition of our first war... to be free and live by our constitution. True, we are a collection of all kinds of cultures... but we must live by our constitution.
I think the human individual must come FIRST before money.
Our national behavior is all about money .!
PEOPLE COME FIRST.... PERIOD !!
