Missing Title and no Serial Number

(Sorry, I put this message as a reply to another below)..this is a duplicate.
We're in trouble! Several years ago we bought what we thought was a modular home. Since we sold our old home first, we paid "cash" for the home. Now that we want to sell it we find out that it's a manufactured home. We have no title. There is no identification number anywhere...we checked the chassis, the water heater closet, the heater-a/c closet, every closet in the house, and find absolutely nothing. The title company is asking us for a title, which, of course we never had. This is an old manufactured home...1974, we believe. It is a lakefront home, and is on concrete piers NOT on a foundation. If we could only find something to start a title search. Does anyone have any ideas???

As a 74 model..ther will be no record of this home in HUDS files...HUD lables started in 1976......Many states did not have a tile system in 74.....Best place to check is your local tax accessor...Also you might check with your title office..the local government will have owners name from the beginning...The title office can search by name.....
