taxes on MH

Post by Ann » Tue Aug 16, 2005 11:09 pm

I live in a "MH" community and being taxed as "real property." I have a real property decal on my window. We all know that the mobile home industry simply changed their name to MH home producers. Does anyone know anything about this or have any idea where I can begin my journey to correct this. My brother in Illinois lives in a "MH" and was successful with the local taxing authority to change the designation to "mobile home" and susequently lowered his taxes.. Thanks, Ann

Almosrt all states have advelorum taxes for valuable items..even RV trailors..boats..boat trailor..You should not be afraid of paying your fair share of taxes...Talk to your local tax collector..tax accessor..and local elected commmissioners...If you do not like thier ansers...run for an office that can influence this law....

All you need to do is go down to the tax office with the following information:

Purchase documents from the purchase of your home. If you cannot locate go to where your decal is, usually on one end of your home, and write down the serial/tag number. Once you have this, you can give this to the taxing authority, and have them change your designation to mobile home.

Also, see if the taxing authority will retroactivate your taxes, or credit you for overpayment of previous years. They should, because it was not your fault that the property was not designated properly.
