cedar siding on a double wide

Sorry, I initially posted this on an unrelated thread. Please excuse me this is my first post. Thanks.

Hello there.....my husband and I are about to purchase a beautiful Norris built 48 x 76 Clayton home. We are considering their cedar siding which the model has and looks fantastic. We have been told by the dealer it costs approx. $4,000 but takes alot of work and is expensive to maintain. He suggested vinyl to be the better choice. We are concerned about the upkeep so it doesn't loose its look, termites, or other pests, as our land is quite wooded, and of course the cost. The warranty will only last for so long.....sorry I can't remember how long. Any info about these concerns would be greatly appreciated. I dont know the brand or any other info about the cedar that they use.....but it is cedar not a cedarlike product.
Thankyou...breighdi

Bugs stay away from cedar siding...think of cedar lined chests/closets...they are designed to repel bugs...Actually Cedar siding will keep the bugs out of the home...

Cedar siding does take tremendous work to keep the orange look of newly cut cedar...Without constant care it will weather and turn grey...Actually you should not buy cedar unless you expect the siding to turn grey...This weathered cedar look is a highly desired look in very expensive homes right now...All cedar siding exposed to the elements will turn grey..even that which has been sealed regularly...If you buy cedar..expect it to turn to that wonderful weathered look...then upkeep is minor...

You might ask if they offer Hardi Plank siding as an option...Might be a good choice.

Bugs stay away from cedar, but woodpeckers do not. If woodpeckers are a problem in your area you do not want cedar.
