I am purchasing a new Horton doublewide (27x56). We have gone over many option and one of them is the shingles. Is it worth the cost (approx $850.00) to upgrade to the architectural shingles? FYI: I am not upgrading the roof pitch.
Also, what are the important upgrades I need to consider?
upgrade on shingles
Re: upgrade on shingles
With Horton Standard with NovoDeck pressboard floors...I would be sure you get plywood or OSB...Architectural shingles have a different look which is part of the reason folks choose them..also most often they have a 30 year warranty not a 20 year warranty of the standard shingle....This is your choice...I would recommend you option all the energy features you can afford...A recessed frame is a good option if you are going to underpin with brick or block...Ask your salesperson for advice from his/her experience..
Re: upgrade on shingles
Definitely upgrade to 6" walls (more insulation - against both heat and cold), thermal windows, carpet AND pad, appliances and steel entry doors. Have all rooms wired and braced for ceiling fans you can install yourself. Have cable/satellite TV cables installed as well as phone jacks.
Tape and texture is up to you. Purely cosmetic. Six-panel doors are cosmetic also but really look nicer.
