Destiny Homes

Destiny Homes is not mentioned in Grissim's book. Also I read some previous posts from 2005 that they were bankrupt. They just sent me an informational packet which stated that they had the best construction in the industry because they use longitudinal floor , not wood, only steel.

So if this is true why are they bankrupt and still sending out packets?

Thanks Kris

Hello, Kris...

Destiny Homes is very much mentioned in my new guide, The Grissim Ratings Guide to Manufactured Homes (p. 47-48), which rates all U.S. builders.
The company was sold to Oakwood in 1995, then its plant closed in 2002 as Oakwood struggled through bankruptcy. The plant reopened again in 2003 when the original owners bought it back from Oakwood (then in Chap. 11), re-opening as Destiny Industries, LLC. The brand's construction rating suggests theirs is not the best in the industry.

Destiny was part of the Oakwood Family of brands..Oak wood did file bk and closed Destiny..The building and name was sold to Hyatt Industries..Run and owned by Bill Edwards the original owner the old Destiny in the 80's before Oakwood bought to plant from them...

A longitudinal floor means the wood floor joists run the same direction as the I-beams instead of across them...There is some controversy about which system is better...most longitudinal floors I have been involved with require much more perimeter supports to help keep the floor from crowning in the middle..I hope some of our set up pros here will comment on theses types of floors..Destiny is in Moultrie, GA and sells mostly into Florida, GA and SC..

Destiny is privately help company..which means financial info is not public for you to check out...They have only been in business a couple of years..so a long term service record does not exist..They include a 2/10 warranty from an insurance company of the same name..Understand that same warranty can be add to almost any home...It is a limited (very limited) warranty with a large deductible after the first year..I assume the first year is handled by Destiny as most plants do..

Thanks for your post. It cleared some things for me. I guess I'd better read over the book again. My memory failed me!!! My apologies, but the book is great and I can't be without it.
