Set up costs

I'm looking at land for a new home in the Kansas City area and I'm a bit new to the homebuying area. What are the major expenses in set-up? And whats the average calculation for those? Something like x per sqaurefoot? Also if you know of any good manufacturers in the area or "setters" (Is that what foundation layers are called?) I would be much obliged if you could post there info. We're looking for a small home with around a 60k ceiling not including land, think this is possible? Thanks much in advance.
