Buying a home when there's no local dealer

I have some dumb questions. First, I have been looking at several brands of manufactured homes and I like the Solitaire, but others have mentioned Karsten and Horton as being good brands and I like the floor plans better. The trouble is, there are no dealers in my area for these home (Dallas-Fort Worth). Will the manufacturer ship a home anywhere, even when it's not supported by a dealership? What happens when there are defects - will the manufacturer support repairs by a contractor if they aren't in the region to fix it with their support folks? I expect, if the manufacturer ships outside their region, there will be an additional transportation charge - ballpark figure of what would be reasonable?
Thanks - I am learning so much through the posts - I hope to get to the point where I am only mildly confused before I make a decision.

The manufacturers that are available to you should all be with in about 500 miles...much more than that they are unlikely to be able to service the home..and freight to your location might be prohibitive...

You might call the sales departments of the plants you are interested in and ask if they ahve any dealer with in 200 miles of your location...If you insist..find a local dealer and tell him what you want...and ask if they will help get it...some probably would...

There are many fine manufacturers that do business in TX...Check them all out..

According to the Karsten website, there are 2 dealerships in Texas: one in Austin (which I've personally visited) and one in Abilene.
