Southern energy vs. Indies

Post by Robin » Wed Mar 12, 2003 9:07 am

Southern Energy and Indies are two manufacturers that we are looking to deal with. They will both custom build and seem to have better quality than many homes we have seen. They both have higher side walls better molding options just seem to be a cut above. Can anyone give me the top line manufacturer? I would like to make sure I am getting the best homr for the money. If you had the choice which manufacturer would you choose?

I've pretty much decided on the Pinnacle line by Patriot...Drywall finish, solid wood cabinets, great options and real good pricing.....Check it out at Patriothomes.com

We have pretty much decided on the Pinnacle series as well, but we have not
gotten a quote from them as yet on a model.

Indies gave us a quote on a nice custom model 28 X 80. It has all the good
construction points like double window headers, 3/4" plywood floors, 2X8
floor joists 16" OC, 2X6 exterior walls 16" OC, zone 3 insulation, unfinished
sheetrock t/o, AC/ Heat, whirlpool tub in the MBath, tile floor in the entry,
and kitchen, pre wired for phones, outside front and rear electric and water,
stone fireplace in the den, AC/ heatpump, for 62K including taxes, delivery
and setup. I think I left off a few options, but you get the idea.

If Pinnacle proves to be a lot higher, we will probably go with the Indies.
We toured the factory in Hackleburg, AL. It is impressive, and they do
make a very good home. We also decided to price the Indies with
finished sheetrock to make the comparison more fair. We are also
going to get a quote from a local sheetrock finisher.

We just looked at the southern energy's this weekend. They are moving to a
better product with there new homes by including 9 ft sidewalls, and finished
sheetrock t/o. They have 2 X 8 floor joists, Novadeck subfloors, and 2 X 4
exterior walls standard for about 79K. Upgrades to plywood flooring and
2 X 6 ext walls are available. Also, I noticed amongst the eye candy, none of
the sinks or toilets had water cutoffs. The salesman had no clue about the
window and door headers (he told me that he had been in the business for 20
years, and had never been asked that question.) The interior doors were
the el cheapo hollow six panel white variety, hung with a 3 finger hinge. I could
go on.

In short, the southern energy was unimpressive, but can be ordered to suit...
if you want to pay for it.

good luck
