Home Construction

Post by Mary » Sun Sep 01, 2002 1:37 pm

I have spent the last few months researching the idea of puchasing a manufactured home (double wide). I have purchased both books by Randy (Comparison Guide and How To) as well as few others. My question has to do with the actual constuction of the home. I have read complaints where the buyer is claiming to have paid for upgrades and later (when there are problems) discovered that the work was never done. How can I be sure that the upgrades that I am requesting (double headers, etc.) will actually find their way into my home? Do I simply have to rely upon the reputation of the manufacturer?

Thanks.

Make the dealer put it all in writing...if he hesitates...beware...The dealer cannot obligate the manufacturers...All he can do is represent to you what the manufacturer has done...If he lies..the only recourse you have is with him..

You might try a visit to the factory you expect to build your home...Make sure you see all these features in some home on the line..

Also all manufacturers have a detailed spec list for each home..be sure you see yours..

Remember...the books you bought are guide books...not Bibles..Only a few manufacturers will offer EVERY upgrade that is recommended...As a matter of fact..the best way to buy is to find a manufacturer that includes most of these features as standard equipment..The more that is standard...the less chance of error...

Thanks. What you said makes a lot of sense. I live in Northern Virginia and I'm currently looking at the following manufacturers: Palm Harbor, Commodore Homes and R-Anell Custom Homes. I will definitely make a point of touring each of their plants. My research indicates that each of these manufacturers build quality homes. Any feedback to the contrary would be greatly appreciated.
