Problem with retailer
Problem with retailer
I have created a problem or now I have run into a problem I have educated myself so well I know more about some of the homes I look at than the salesmen do. I viisited a retailer this afternoon and asked about what they use for a headers over the doors and windows? He didn't have an answer except whatever HUD requires. Then I asked what they use for floor decking he replied cresdeck. And I said oh basically a treated particle board he said "ahhh yah". I asked if it could be upgraded to plywood he flat out said no. I thought after reading Randy's books I could get a retailer to upgrade almost anything. Am I wrong about this? This was a Karsten Dealer by the way. His attitude changed quickly when I started with these questions. This concerns me. Should try to deal with a manager or go somewhere else. They also only had three models to look through which weren't what we had in mind at all. I really like the Karstens but this has turned me off.
Re: Problem with retailer
I have done a lot of indepth research into the Karsten home. They do use Cresdeck or something similar and I have been told that they WILL NOT make an option change for either plywood or OSB. This has also turned me off as far as the KARSTEN goes, unfortunately.
Re: Problem with retailer
Thanks for the info. I think I will go for the silvercrest or just a beffed up champion. I had my heart set on the Karsten too but their unwilling attitude towards the upgrade may have changed my mind.
Re: Problem with retailer
We visited the Karsten factory in Sacramento and the manager there told us they could use plywood instead of Cresdeck for the subfloor. He seemed surprised that I asked. Obviously he doesn't follow this message board!
