Skyline and Comparables
Skyline and Comparables
I'd like to know which manufacturer has floorplans and features comparable to Skyline, but with a lower price tag. Skyline has lots of windows along with other great features - like finished sheetrock, 6-inch walls, big rooms, etc. - but the homes are just too expensive. Has anybody seen another more affordable brand (of excellent quality) that compares to Skyline? This would be for the Georgia/Alabama area. THanks

My husband and I also like the Skyline but they ARE high! Would like to know the names of some comparable manufacturers. I like all the windows too, and did you notice the doors are wider than in other MH's.

Same here. I live in the West Georgia and I've been to Fleetwood and Palm Harbor (Temple, GA.). All I know so far is Palm Harbor offers 6" walls and 8" floor joists as upgrade options. The Fleetwoods all had 4" walls and the salesperson wanted me to buy off the lot, not to order anything custom (but I don't LIKE that color carpet!), but P.H. was just the opposite, they want me to pick a model and customize. I'm still in the early stages of looking and next I'm going to Five Star. They offer Horton, Franklin, and Redman. Anyone with info as to the best quality to price ratio out of these, please let me know. Thanks.

Patrick, if you go to Five Star, go to the one in Bowdon and see Rodney Walker. He is very knowledgeable and not at all pushy. Five Star has been in business for something like 30 or 40 years and I think they're family-owned, which is good. The Franklin homes he showed me were very nice and the prices were competitive. I think you'll be impressed with their laid-back approach over there. I found that Palm Harbor salespeople tend to put you through an interrogation and then they spend a lot of time emphasizing things nobody gives a hoot about -- like the "fact" that their door hinges will hold up 150 lbs. SO WHAT???????
Also, with the Franklins, you can get a higher pitched roof if you want to (not important to me, but may be to some people). Don't know of any other manufacturers that do that.
Good luck.

Clayton makes houses very comparable to Skyline and not as expensive.

I have a Skyline. Wish I had never heard of them.. [email protected]

P.S. Skyline has taught me to look elsewhere in the future for a home - Never again a MH, especially from Skyline........
