Buying a MH with bad credit

Post by Ro » Sun Jun 24, 2001 2:40 pm

My husband and our family (2 kids) live in Orange County, CA and want to buy a 3-bdrm, 2-bath MH and stay here in OC. (New or used, we're flexible.) We went last weekend and looked at some new models at a dealership. When the salesman came out he was kind and seemed sincere, but told us that we won't be able to get financed because our credit includes back child support (arrearages) my husband owes which just keep climbing in interest, so even though he has been paying his regular payments as ordered by the court for many years this will show as a negative on our credit history. We'd like to know if this is true (not being able to get financed) or if there is some way we may be able to buy a home. And IF there's a way to get financed, what manufacturer(s) offer the best value for our money?

Ro,

You really need to get a copy of your families credit report and find out what problems, if any, are listed. This can cost anywhere from free-to $15. That would be your starting point.

Go to web site: www.trw-credit-reports-4-free.com.

If you have a problem, such as child support back payments, then visit with a legitimate credit counseling firm (preferrably a non-profit firm) to get advice on how best to correct this problem. The initial visit should be free.

For recommendations on MH manufacturers, contact your states Manufactured Housing Association. See web site below for state listing of associations.
