Cert. of Occupancy

Post by Richard » Sat Aug 16, 2003 4:11 pm

Recent conversations with a well respected manufactured housing dealer in my area, and at the request of my realtor, I had occassion to visit the County Office of Building Permits.
This has been the most interesting of all of my fourty months of digging through the garbage.
Skyline Corporation did not notice it.
The SAA did not notice it. Underwriters Laboratory told me about it.
The building inspector IGNORED it, (along with a great deal more) and he signed a false affidavid approving the so called completed inspection.
All of the 'repair persons' that have been under my house never mentioned it.
On a second complaint to the SAA, I told them of the lack of two pier supports that are supposed to be located under this house at specified locations.
Through the help of HUD out of the Pennsylvania office, (Certainly not upon my request to Skyline for it) I was finally able to obtain a certified mechanical drawing that showed the pier placement and other pertinent information.
My visit to the Coumty Permit Office proved it all.
The information on the permit was false.
The information did not indicate proper house size, proper model number, proper square footage, ( I do not know of anything proper).
Of coarse I requested to speak to the head good ole' boy.
He was busy.
I returned to his office several hours later and did get to speak with him.
All of his files concerning my 26 x 56 house, Model 4700 CT were actually for a much smaller house (26 x 44).
After a few minutes with this gentleman, I also showed him an additional drawing for the cross over ducting. Yes this too was wrong in his file.
I do wonder how anyone could possibly not realize that this house was considerably larger, and that the perimiter of the permanent foundation was considerably larger.
Well now. The SAA has been informed.
The building inspectors office has the information and has orderred another inspection for which the developer will pay for the added size and for the inspection.
My 'Certificate' will be corrected. And I will be able to sell my house.
After all of this, I called my 'friend' at HUD and gave him all of this.
He called me back to say that the FHA inspection had been falsified and signed by 'someone other than an FHA inspector.'
When he read the names off of the papers he had, they were only too familiar to me.
Thank heaven I have the time to dig little trenches.
All of these little trenches have blossomed into a grand burial site.
I can't wait to get out of this state and away from all of these 'good ole' boys'.

If you have the time and resources, you can uncover some interesting things in our country.
I quess my message is: If you take your time, check with all possible agencies, you may find things concerning the 'person' that you may be considering doing your business with. Always watch for those 'flags.' Steer well away from the person that constantly tells you " what wonderful things we are doing for you."
