I have a 1950's cast iron tub and the stopper is gone. I believe it is called a shoe.
I have a chrome round thing that you either turn left or right that would close and unclose the stopper.

thanks in advance
bath tub stopper called a shoe
Re: bath tub stopper called a shoe
Thelma,
Try to remove the closer portion from the tub. If there are screws holding the closer in place you should be able to remove the screws and wiggle the hole closer control out. If you are able to do this try going to your local hardware store to purchase a stopper that fits the closer or buy a complete new package that matches the closer.
If none of what I said makes sense, call a plummer but be ready to spend around $100.00 bucks.
Good luck.
