3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
Just starting to look at manufactured homes and found Palm Harbor and Karsten to both be nice homes with one big exception. Palm Harbor uses tongue and groove 3/4 inch flooring and Karsten uses Cresdeck (looks like some sort of press board). What is your take on this type of material and what manufactures should we look at?
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
Not my first choice...plywood or osb are the better choices...
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
and to boot its only 1/2 inch thick vers the osb thats 3/4 inch.
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
Stay away from Cresdeck. If it ever gets wet, you'll be replacing a floor.
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
I have Cresdek (I have a Karsten home) - I'm very careful not to leave water on the floor. If I have a plumbing leak, clothes washer leak, dishwasher, etc...and I don't catch it right away - then, as Kevin says - I will be replacing a big chunk of floor. Karsten would not do OSB or plywood - I sure would if given the chance. If I had kids at home, I would have picked another manufacturer.

thanks for all the input looks like i need to look at the palm harbor. I really liked the karsten but the flooring is a deal breaker.

Hi,
I,ve been in the manufactured home industry since 1987. Just a personal experience I witnessed regarding Cresdeck. I was on my dealers lot, maybe 1990 and we had a home that had come in, it hadn't been put together and the rains where here (Washington state) I watched the rain hit the opening of the two halfs and the flooring material was Cresdeck. During the month or so the home was exposed to extreme water, the flooring material never bowed, swelled or changed in any way, shape or form. Hope that helps you out!

I am not sure about a Karsten, but Cavalier uses Cresdeck, and it comes with a 10 year warrentee on the floor decking. I used to think as you plywood, or OSB, but standing behind a product for 10 years says something.
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
I think Cavalier uses GA Pacific's pressboard product called Novo Deck...If so you should read the warranty..and especially read the section about voiding it if the floor gets wet...Wet is what does the damage to this press board...Most OSB manufacturers have a 25 year warranty without such an exclusion...Most OSB manufacturers even cover the labor ..materials and floor covering that would need to be replaced....Quality plywood also has a 10 year warranty...sometimes longer...Press board in never a good choice...
Re: 3/4 OSB Tongue and Groove vers Cresdeck
my only other question is if cresdeck or novadeck is so just fine, then why dont site built homes use it?
