Foundations

Hi,
I'm glad I found this site today. There is so much information here but I haven't seen the topic that I need.

We have a 96 skyline double wide. It was customer built to our specs. It has an open floor plan, textured plaster walls etc... I am very disappointed in the dealer that sold us this house. I have regretted it since the first Spring. Here's why- which leads to my question:

When we bought the house no one ever so much as suggested we go the extra expense of putting in a foundation. We have alot of problems with cracks in the plaster. they have been fixed over and over again. I want to know if it is possible to now put this house on a foundation. We have contacted construction companies in our area and have recieved conflicting information. It seems to me that this should not be a big deal and could maybe be done 2 different ways- one roll the house back, put in the foundation and roll the house onto the foundation, or lift it off with a crane and lift it back onto the new foundation. I thought I should ask you, so I can get the correct answer from an expert before going on a wild goose chase. Also, if this can be done, can you give me an idea of time frame and cost?

I'm in the Binghamton,NY area in case you need to know.

When you reply, please send a copy to my e-mail address. Thanks!

With the area of the country in which you live, inorder to deal with the frost line considerations, the easiest way is to take the home apart, move it out of the way, and construct the foundation you want. I assume you are speaking to a frost protected footing system with piers and a masonry perimeter skirt. I would be interested in what type of set you have, are you on concrete footings to the frost line? Or are you looking for a basement?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I would like to put this house on a foundation- full basement. The house is set up for it as an option so not much remodeling would have to be done to the existing structure ie: stairwell to the basement.

We're currently on a slab.I'm not so sure I would opt to purchase a double wide again. Maybe this opinion would change if putting this house on a foundation is possible without spending a fortune.

Thanks again. Looking forward to your reply.
