Where can I go for an answer???
Where can I go for an answer???
Someone must know how long the 70's 80's model manufactures home last, but I can't get any replies to asking about this three times now. I've spent hours searching can can find no information. I know currently manufactured homes last 60 years. Can't anyone say how long a 1979 Guerdon is expected to last? Were they built to last 60 years also? If anyone can reply I'd greatly appreciate it!
Re: Where can I go for an answer???
Linda,
I live in a 1973 Golden West manufactured home. Bought it used on it's own land. It is in great shape and should go at least another 35 years. I live in Southern California's high desert. This is the second MH that I've owned.
The other one was a 1986 Barron. I lived in it for 9 years. It was in a MH Park. It was a nice home for about the first 5 years then things started to happen. Some of it was wear and tear, and other things just happened. I really can't explain it.
I swore that after I got rid of it that I would never get involved with another MH.
To answer your question, there is no real answer. It will depend on where the home is at, how well it was taken care of, how well it was set up, etc.
The suggestion that I have is to have an experianced MH home inspector check it out.
Talk to other folks in the area and see if they knew the former owners and ask their opinion on how they took care of their home.
There is no reason a properly taken care of MH should not last 50/60 years or even longer.
Good Luck.
Jeff

Re: Where can I go for an answer???
It is hard to tell you how long any pre-code home will last or how it will preform. THere was no code and few strandards. Some were built poorly and otheres built better then the homes of today. We have seen some that were not worth the cost to haul them off and others that look and perform as good as the day they were built... A lot depends on the way they were cared for over the years.
Re: Where can I go for an answer???
It depends on the condition of the home and where you live. If it's in good condition, in a dry area, and you maintain it well, it could last seemingly forever. I believe Guerdon had a good reputation then. I'd try over in the Repair and Renovation area
Mac, David & Jeff: Thanks so much!
I only found a couple of items on Guerdon's on Google and both were good. They were referred to in the business as "little tanks".
I'll definitely get an inspector. Does this have to be a MH inspector?
Mac, I'll check out the Repair and Renovation area.
Thanks all for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate it!
