I just bought a manufactured home. I would like to make it look more like a framed house. Can you replace the vinyl drywall/ wallboard on the interior walls with sheetrock? This will make it look more like a framed built house and eliminate the joints that are now currently covered with strips. If so how would you go about this?
Thank You

Re: REplacing the vinyl drywall with regular sheetrock
I have a single wide 1999 and I too had the strips and vinyl wallboard. I removed the strips and covered the cracks with drywall mud and then sanded. I then painted over them with a sponge method and they came out beautiful. i'm happy that i did it because it was a lot less expensive and labor than putting up new walls. Try it. what have you got to lose? If it doesn't come out like you want then youcan replace the walls.
Re: REplacing the vinyl drywall with regular sheetrock
If you are installing a large size sheet rock please check your manuel beofre you do anything. If your home is under any type of warranty you could void it by adding the extra wieght if you say go form a 3/8 " to a 5/8 sheet rock.
