Modular companies

Post by danna » Tue Feb 15, 2005 11:27 pm

Hi,
I found this site awhile back and have learned a bunch.
We're planning on building a modular home on a basement and have been shopping around. The models we're looking at are Design Homes of WI, Hart modular, Liberty Pine Brook modular, Patriot Energy Mate modular, Fuqua modular and Fortune modular. Does anyone have any experience with modular homes from any of these companies? Thanks. danna

I would skip the Liberty, it doesn't really measure up to the others in most respects.
Of the others, consider Fortune the low priced alternative.
Make sure you check out your builder and get references. Design, Fuqua, Energymate and Hart all build an good house.
Choosing a good builder will insure that you will get a good, solid home with any of these manufacturers.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ordered the modular home book last week and it had some good info, but I was looking for some personal experiences from people who had built and is living in one of these brands or someone who has checked checked into them extensively.

I have been doing the comparisons on how these homes are all built. I have a spread sheet made up so that I can do a at a glance comparison of all these homes. I noticed that several companies are now using a product called Cres X floor decking. What is this? Fuqua is using it now and they have a 10 year guarantee on it so I wouldn't think it'd be particle board. Has anyone seen cres x or had any experience with it. Thanks Danna

cress x is particleboard. It is d-3, which means that it is denser than most particleboard.
Most particleboard floors have long warranties, but the warranty does not cover exposure to moisture.

What state are you in. That may play a part on what homes are best for you and weather I could be of asistance. Ces x is a type of particle board however thgey say and do demo's sinking the cres x board in a tub of water for 3 days and it had no structural loss of strength. I do however recommend upgrading to OSB or plywood still a better product

That's what the dealer was telling us. About the cres x being in a bucket of water along with plywood, and that the cres x didnt swell while the plywood fell apart. The dealer says that we can't upgrade to plywood.
We're in North east Missouri, so we've been looking at dealers in Illinois, Missouri,, and Iowa

I alwyas thought this kind of experiment was insulting to customers..I would hope you would not flood your floors enough to rot plywood...I am sure you have no intention of immersing you whole floor in a bucket of water...Find a builder with a floor upgrade..

We are preparing to go with an Oakwood Modular home, does anyone have any input on their homes. We were notified recently that the home would be on a frame, because we have a sunken den. Any thoughts on that? Our home is going to be 60' x 32' so we are getting upgraded walls and flooring because it is 4' wider than the standard home. Any input that you could give us is appreciated. Thank you kindly.
