novadeck flooring looks good to me
novadeck flooring looks good to me
I am buying a skyline that will be built in pennsyvania. This plant does not offer any other flooring except novadeck. It is 7/8 inches thick and after talking to the dealer about my concerns he came up with this idea.He gave me a piece of this wood 6 inches by 10 inches which i then soaked this wood in water for 24 hrs.Guess what NO SWELLING NO WHARPING! This is not the same particle board you all think it is. It is glued and sealed differantly. It is far better than plywood because it comes in 14 foot sections . There for you dont have as many joints and no nots in the wood which in the future become holes.Should be in my house in about 4 months. And will let all of you know how it goes. If the floors start to swell or wharp. I will just burn the house down and get my money back. Just kidding! THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE ME ADVICE YOU ALL HAVE BEEN A GREAT HELP
Re: novadeck flooring looks good to me
Actually most OSB for MH flooring comes in longer sections then 14 ft.The problem with Novadecking is that in the long run it will not stand up to moisture as well as OSB or plywood.HUD codes are not concerened with the long term for the most part, they tend to allow materials that will pass a strength test but don't go any farther down the road then that.
However, keep Novadeck dry and it should be fine.
PS..Salesmen tell you what you want to hear ,not what you need to know.

I worked with a company back in 1980- 1985 (I won't mention the name) but they had the same novadeck in their homes and had the same salespitch with the water....but I stayed busy replacing flooring....anyway thought you might like to know....GOOD LUCK!
Re: novadeck flooring looks good to me
It is definitely the same stuff as I have mentioned here often...
I hope you have no problems..or do not have problems with formaldehyde ..the basis of the glue used..
You might want to try this link to see what it looks like after the problems happen..

Re: novadeck flooring looks good to me
The problem of swelling comes about when the walls are nailed into the material, holes drilled for electrical and plumbing, etc. My experience with the Ephrata was a three year nightmare which included the office of HUD contacting the Skyline Plant. My kitchen floor got wet after their service person took up the old linoleum. When they hooked up the ice maker, it was not correct. Water soaked through to, and into the wonderful "particle board". Skyline refused to replace the kitchen floor which was more like a roller coaster ride.
I fought with Skyline, HUD sent letters to Skyline, the manufactured housing board for WV sent letters, Mr. Conte of HUD of Pennsylvania sent letters, NO REPAIRS were made to that Skylousy mh that Skyline did not want to do.

Re: novadeck flooring looks good to me
Novadeck flooring is not the way to go. OSB or Plywood are so much better. I did some research and I can tell you I would not use Novadeck. You can never tell when you might get a leak. Of course this is one of those things you have to decide for yourselg. Good luck.
