Set up to code?

Need some answers on the following:
1) The house I have Purchased has a raised roof. The peaks had to be made because the factory sent the wrong size. The ones made on site are nailed together but do not have the press on plates like the ones sent by the factory.
2) Some of the Strong backs (or the 2X4s holding the peak) are lose or not nailed at all. I know this or course is not correct.
3) Scraps of OSB are being used to finish off the peak (6 inches in width) because th factory sent the wrong size.
Now, I dont hold this against the set up crew, because they are dealing with what Clayton has sent them, but the job needs to be done right. Just want some opinions, I realy wish the local building inspectors would inspect the setup.

Local building inspectors are obligated to be sure the home is set up to the requirements of the set up manual you should have been given..

Call the Clayton plant service department and explain your concerns...ASAP..It is not likely that Clayton has sent the whole wrong roof....Also not likely that the roof was 6 inches off from the plant...Sounds like you have a legitimate concern...Be proactive NOW..

Also if the truss roof system is built from scratch on site,it won't be HUD approved.If this is a new home that could cause problems when yur morgtage closes.Also if the construction is done by a bunch of ya-hoos you can look forward to tons of problems done the road.The whole thing sounds a little strange to me.

This is "alternate construction" and should be inspected in the field by the HUD inspector. In some states, the State Housing and Community development does this. If home was built in another state and shipped, then the state where home manufactured will send or hire someone for inspection.

I would suggest you read and follow the suggestions offered by Consumers Union. They have a brochure/website on mobile homes and what to do when things go wrong: http://www.consumersunion.org/other/mh/brochure.htm.

In short, start with your dealer, if he doesn't give you satisfaction, call the manufacturer. If they fail, you can call the state agency that oversees manufactured housing. They don't inspect unless you file a complaint, but are consumer advocates in situations where the code has not been followed (as in your case) and companies are irresponsible.
