Maximum dimensions for transport
Maximum dimensions for transport
What are the maximum practical dimensions for trailering a modular home section? Apparently the Interstate highways have a 13'-6" height limit, and some states allow 16' widths. Does anyone know states with smaller requirements, or is there a website that has summarized the dimensions state by state?
Re: Maximum dimensions for transport
Movement of manufactured homes and modular homes, is controlled by the Department of Transportation in each state. Each state then has statues that reflect the normal movement of oversized loads. Each is also subject to procedures for special permits, be it over width, over height, or over length. In any event, a permit is needed. Generally a "blanket" permit, which is the method by which most manufactured homes move, gives the every day oversize restrictions, but these can be increased on an individual basis, subject to a "fee". This is why 16' wide homes are not available for transport in all states. What this boils down to, is that if you have a specific size and route, it may very well be permitted for an individual trip if the money is right.
