We are shopping around for a double wide and found a new Schult that is absolutely gorgeous. Can anyone tell me if they've owned a Schult, if this is a good quality manufacturer, etc.? Thanks.

Schult is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oakwood Homes...They are currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy..The final court hearings have been delayed from July to August to September...now could be as late as December...There is question they may not make our of Chapter 11 as a going concern...

All of that said...I would not be buying from an Oakwood owned dealership..if the company fails..they will be gone...If the dealer is an independent dealer..they should already told you about Schultz's possible demise..and offered the home with a 2/10 warranty through an independent insurance company..These would take over warranty of substantial items if the company fails....

Also..the Schult label is used in many different Oakwood plants...all build different homes..some are good homes..some are not...Check the basic construction and be sure it is of a quality that you hope to have...If you do buy..be sure you have the outside warranty coverage of an extended warranty...Good Luck

Thanks for the info. This was an independent dealer, and he didn't mention the Chapter 11 issue; this certainly makes me think that we may not want to buy from this dealer. He also didn't mention the warranty; this is definitely food for thought. The more manufactured homes we look at, the more confused we get.
Thanks again for the info.

I have a Shultz that is 37 years old but is pretty ratty nowbut I had good luck with it. It was used as a rent house so if a person lived in it he would take better care of it.
Murray do you know where I would find the serial number on this mid-seventies Schults? Please reply to my email address. I may not ever find this place again. Thanks. Ted
