Super Good Cents

What is the difference between a Super Good Cents manufactured home and a HUD home? Does SGC's really save more money on heating and cooling than the increased mortgage?

Thank you in advance,

The term "super goodsense" is an advertising term used by some electric companies...

For the most energy efficient home be sure to get an "Energy Star" designated home...

Go to www.EnergyStar.gov web site for a full explaination and the potential savings in your area..

I see you are a Northwesterner... Super Good Cents is a standard similar to the Federal EnergyStar program. Yes, extra insulation etc. will pay for itself fairly quickly, even in Tacoma's sorta moderate climate.

not so

hi everyone,
not so. super good cents may approach the energy star rating in some aspects of construction. it by no means is equatable.

to prove this to yourself, go to both sites and compare.

this becomes particularly important with extremes of heat and cold. in moderate climates such as portions of the nw, the two ratings can result in similar standards. however, a good cents home will not reflect the demanding expectations of an energy star home in any area of the country.

look for energy star and expect a rating of 84 or above (from epa/doe) on the entire structure. you will be rewarded with a structure that will hold its value longer in addition to being provided a considerable reduction in energy costs.
