Drywalls vs. vinyl covered gypsum?
Drywalls vs. vinyl covered gypsum?
I am trying to distinguish the difference between the two different types of walls. Which would be the better wall?
Re: Drywalls vs. vinyl covered gypsum?
Drywall is paper covered gypsum and Vinyl covered gypsum is drywall that has been covered in vinyl or a plastic cover. When you get vinyl covered there are strips that cover the seams with drywall it is tape and bed so there are no seams that show. It is worth the additional cost to have the tape and bed because you can do anything with the wall, wallpaper, paint, texture. Most often you see tape and texture. The texture is a rough surface that hides a less than perfect tape job. If you get tape and bed and want to put on wallpaper, size the wall before you put up the paper, cheap and easy to do, so if you change your mind later the paper is easy to remove.

Both are sheetrock...this depends on you and your families needs...the wallpaper is good for those who do not like to do much decorating over time and want easy cleaning walls..(especially good with small kids)..
Tape and texture does away with the molding strips that some do not like...of course it will require much more care and costs about $ 4000 more when originally purchased..Manufactuers have a very limited warranty on the tape and texture..from none to 30 days to only 1 service call...They have learned that problems are rampant with tape and texture and they do not want to guarantee the stuff very long...
Both are good...it is all in the eye of the beholder...$4000 plus interest is a lot of money for a little fancier finish...but many opt for it anyway..

Good point RM. But by the same token, $65 - $80K plus interest is a lot to pay
for the bad appearance of the vinyl covered stuff. Might as well pay more and
increase the resale value of your home. Just my 2 cents.
