When my husband and I brought our home in 2001, we decided to above ground set it, (not knowing what we know now). Our question is this: can we have our double wide manufactured home ground set NOW without moving it off the property. And how do we find a company that will do this?
Thank you! We live in Apache Junction, AZ

Re: Advice for ground setting our Manufactured home
Your certainly can have the home reset. In order to accomplish a ground set you must dig a hole below where the home will sit. At this point in order to do that you would need to move the home off its spot and bring in digging equipment. Resetting the home would involve disconnecting all the utilities and re-hooking them up.
Call in a local licensed manufactured home installer and ask him to come give you an estimate and an itemization for the cost of permits and the numerous tasks and contractors that would most likely be involved.
Unless there is a problem with the existing installation, the advantage would be strictly cosmetic. You are looking at an expensive project with little or no return when you are ready to sell. I think the cost will be prohibitive. At this point in the economy I think you would benefit much more by putting that money into making the home more energy efficient.

Re: Advice for ground setting our Manufactured home
Thank you for your expert advice. There is no problem with the existing installation except for maybe having it re-leveled. If I knew back when we brought the home about ground setting and all, we would have had it done then. Again, thank you for your time and advice. Sincerely, Carol
