Sounds like you have talked to one of their competitors. There is another quality home manufacturer that has longitudinal flooring and that is Karsten. I can't see how it is less expensive but could be. The spacing and thickness of the joists is the important factor and if they are on 16" than that is more than adaquate. With a MH you are placing the joists on a steel I-beam vs conventional construction that places joists across a space with a wood support. Longitudinal flooring makes it possible for full sheet flooring and less seams. Call Karsten or Golden West and ask them why they use longitudinal floor system. Don't listen to their competition ask the manufacturer directly. There is nothing wrong with either system if done right.

The reason they use a longitudinal flooring system is that there are less seams. Less seams means less room for error.

I am close to Sedona, AZ. and I am interested in purchasing a MH on a piece of land. What is the BEST brand out there to buy? Is there an online source listing these MH's in order of quality? Thanks.

I have to say that after seeing the longitudinal floor in process at the CA G. West plant I was very impressed. It actually seemed better supported than some others. GW is back in the game for us! SHOOT- that means more floor plans to decide between.
