Thermo pane windows are 2 sheets of glass with a low heat tranmitting stuff in
between....

There are some windows with lifetime guarantees...They will use a near vacuum in between with very high price seals around the glass...These windows can cost thousands each and are not usually in new construction of any home...

The windows used in manufactured homes (as well as almost all normal stick built homes) use aragon gas in between the panes...Eventually the seals leak and air goes into the area between the gas...At this point the windows have lost most of their thermo properties...Also often moisture will build up on the inside of the glass making them fog up and impossible to see through...You have probably seen this...if not look around on stick builts about 10 years old...you will see lots of it...There is a huge business in window replacements...this is why..

How long will they last?????...Who knows...7 to 10 years is what most say...Then..if you still want thermo properties you will have to have them replaced..

Wow! Thanks for that info! So, would it be better to.....sm

skip the thermo-panes (losing the gas doesn't bother me as much as the idea of them fogging up does) and just get a high-quality, single-pane window with a low-e coating or have the coating put on later?
