Yes, they are in the ceiling. Mine is 76' long as well, but doesn't have a ridge vent at all, instead it has 4 'free flow' vents along one half of the home.

I would extend the ridge vent to about 70' in length. I would certainly ask the dealer to do it, but they may not. They may contend that there are enough square inches of ventilation for your house, hoewever, the advantage of a ridge vent is that you provide ventilation over the full length of the house. The area 10 or 20 feet from the vent is not being adequately serviced by the vent. it's worth a shot though. You may also want to think about a power vent. A little active air flow can do wonders to improve the operation of the existing vents. You can buy one that is solar powered so you don't have to do any wiring. One about 15' from each end should help quite a bit. You do not want to put gable vents in your house. Because you have a 5/12 roof, the gable ends are sheated with osb and cutting holes in that osb would reduce the shear strength of your roof.
