We have a 2005 Golden West double wide home that was placed on a lot that used to have a single wide and a yard. We bought the home when it was 1 year old and noticed that the side of the house that was placed on the "yard" side was a bit lower than the other side of the house. We do live 65 feet from railroad tracks behind our home with multiple trains passing daily. So even though everything is to "manufacturer and legal guidelines" we do have a different situation with the constant vibration from the trains passing.
We have re-leveled...had piers "tightened" repeatedly and it lasts about four months before the "shaking" starts to worsen.
We've called out a new repair company who has suggested the following course of action:
Estimate for a re-level plus 10 additional sets, which are: steel piers, pads and screw tops, to be placed on the marriage line to insure additional support, at above address. We will fine tune all existing piers and earthquake supports.
Marriage line floor does not line up evenly from living room to the front of double wide manufactured home. The lag screws underneath, on the marriage line, must be removed before pier supports can be installed. The lags screws will be re-installed once the piers are in place.
The manufactured home is located near railroad tracks, thus resulting in ground movement. We are not able to guarantee long lasting stability.
My question is...won't removing the lag screws while the additional pier supports are being installed cause possible damage to our home? Do you feel this suggestion is a good solution?

The purpose of the lags is to keep the centerline of the home even. The lags don't offer any support to the home. The lags will need to be removed to get the sections back to level, If the contractor knows what they are doing there is no danger to your home.
Take a look at the SureSafe Manufactured Housing Foundation system. It is designed to withstand earthquakes in California and might help with the constant vibration at your place.

Thank you for the website info - I've submited a request for a phone call to get further info and a quote. This has been such a frustrating process to keep our house at just a vibration level(where things DON"T rattle on the walls) instead of the shaking (where things rattle on the walls)...it looked from the information on the Sure Safe website that there just might actually be a solution....there aren't enough words to thank you!
