new roof trusses

Post by highpockets » Tue Dec 30, 2008 9:02 am

I have a 1991 mobile home...28 X 70. The shingles are getting bad and I was thinking about putting new trusses/roofing/etc over the existing roof and changing the pitch. Anyone done this? Any tips? The home does have a gable???? area going the other direction over the front door, so that would be a problem area for the new trusses...I also have a 30' deep garage built on the end, but set back about 10'. This won't be easy, but I think it would make the house look better, last longer and be more energy efficient. Any imput appreciated. Thanks.

If the existing truss system is not damaged there is not much reason to spend the money that it would require to replace them.

You've got a lot of new choices today for manufactured home roof replacement. New engineered shingles are made to look like cedar or tile. Even metal roofs, the old standby for barns, have made a comeback with new colors, styles, and 50 year maintenance-free life expectancy.

If you think your problem is a low roof pitch the metal roof can help as rain water will drain quicker over a sheet of metal than it can passing over over-lapped shingles.
