nova deck

Does anyone know if they still make 3/4 decking? I was told that they do not make 3/4 and you had to replace it with 5/8 decking ,leaving 1/8 inch drop in the floor every place they cut it out. Also they are telling me that the 5/8 is better than the 3/4.Can someone tell me if this is true? Thanks Randy

I doubt 5/8ths is better than 3/4ths...makes no sense..

Even if they do not make the pressboard in 3/4 anymore..there sure is lots of 3/4 osb and plywood available...

This is from the Georgia Pacific web site and it refers to 3/4" product..the installation instructions are quite different for 3/4 and 5/8..

"Joist and Joist Spacing
The floor joist system must be of a suitable grade of softwood
dimension lumber (Douglas Fir, Southern Pine, Spruce, Pine, Fir or
similar) of 2 x 4 or larger, with maximum moisture content of 19%
at the time of installation. Stagger splice joints in floor joists.
Spacing between any two joists in the manufacturered housing must
not exceed the following center line spacings for thickness specified.
11⁄16 Novodeck and 5⁄8 Novoflor — Maximum 16 o.c.
13⁄16 Novodeck and 3⁄4 Novoflor — Maximum 24 o.c."

If I read this right..NovaDeck only comes in 13/16ths or 11/16ths..

You can find info here..

If your current flooring is NovaDeck and they are replacing with NovaDeck, then I would tell them to replace with regular plywood. NovaDeck is a fancy name for particle board, which if given the choice, I would certainly want plywood. Tom
