Painting Interior Walls

My parents are painting the interior of their modular home. They removed the strips, put tape over the area, put putty over that and then sanded. They put a layer of KILZ on the walls and then painted. (The wall color is "Old Burgundy", by Olympic.) The problem is - The area where they removed the strips is bumpy and darker than the rest of the wall. What can be done?

The way this is usually done is with sheetrock tape and joint compound..If done with these materials and sanded smooth there will be no problems. It sounds as if you didn't uses joint compound and or sand it out completely.

Some have had good luck with paintable caulk. Depends on how big the gaps are. More than on eight inch gap, use the method mentioned above. Tom

The walls in my bathrooms, kitchen and utility rooms are vinyl. The rest of the house is sheetrock. Isn't there some kind of sealer or base paint I will have to apply on the vinyl before painting the walls?

Just making sure we have our terms correct. By sheetrock, are you talking about regular house sheetrock and not the thin wallboard normally used in MH's? If its house sheetrock, what is covering it now? Tom

I would like to know what would be suggested to spruce up my vinly walls in my kitchen and bath? We just bought our home and I would love to change to wall color but am not sure if I should paint or try to cover the walls with wallpaper. Is it feasible to replace these vinly covered panels? I am not sure if that can be done without a great cost. Thanks for any help.

Just a thought from my recent experience don't wallpaper your walls if you ever plan on this house being moved! We wallpapered our singlewide and then years later bought a doublewide. When we moved our singlewide the wallpaper ripped at all the seams due to the moving walls. We then had to repair it all once the home was sold and relocated.

I want to change the bathroom and Kitchen walls in a 1990 MH. I'm trying to decide if I should use Super Fresco wallcovering or paint the walls. (These walls have the MH wall board stuff.) I understand you can paint the Super Fresco wallcovering which would be ideal. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if I paint the wallcovering would the lines show up if painted?

Just so I am clear on this... I can't just paint the walls in my modular?
I really am confused, until I found this site that was exactly what I was going to do!
