Some time ago I posted a message about replacing a tub in my MH.I got some good advise.I still decided to let a professional do the repairs.
My wife and I went to a local MH supply store and bought the best 2 piece fiberglass tub ans shower surround. The measure ments were exact with the old tub.
I asked at the supply store for their reccomendations for installers. I got 2 names from them. One of them came out to bid on the job. After a few days I decided to call a few local contractors who do remodeling and general contracting.Got a few bids they were pretty close in price.
I settled with a general contractor, insured and bonded.
It took about 20 minutes to remove the old poor excuse for a tub! This piece of junk was not fit to sell to consumers and should not be allowed to be sold in MH.
The new tub was very heavy and well constructed with solid 4x4 blocks for feet and a thick plywood floor molded into the fiberglass. There was very little flex in this tub.
In order to get the new tub into the bathroom the door casing had to be removed, and the sheetrock had to be broken out on both ends of the tub enclosure to lay the tub in.
Then came the shower surround in 1 section they finally got it through the bathrrom door way but had no room to turn it so out it came and down came the wall to the adjoining bedroom! Sheetrock and wall studs !
Then the drain pipe had to be modified so he had to go up through the bottom of the MH to do that.
They did an excellent job of installing this "monster tub" What he charged was fair and I am very pleased with his work! If you live in the Charleston,SC area he is available to do just about anything you need done I am willing to give you his contact info if you write to me [email protected] He is doing an estimate for additional outside painting and door repairs for me.
The jisy of this post is
THIS IS NOT A DO IT YOURSELF JOB!!!!! HIRE A PRO!
Bathtub replacement blues!
Re: Bathtub replacement blues!
Tub and shower enclosures are always installed before the sheetrock and trim goes in in any type of new construction. If you need to replace them you usually have problems getting them in the room as you have found out.Having to tear out a bunch of stuff is about the norm unless you have a large room and wider then normal door openings. Most MH's have smaller then normal doors.Glad you found someone who could handle the task.Hows everything in Goose Creek?:)I lived down the road in N Chas in the 70's and 80's.Hear they have just about have
grown together now despite the loss of the Naval Base.
