One of the rooms in my home is starting to hump up. Also in the kitchen it makes noise when you walk in there, kind of like the floor is becoming loose. I am wondering if I need to have someone check the level of my home or if there is something else I need to do. If this is something that I can fix I would prefer to do it myself, but will call the pros if need be.
Thanks,
Caleb

Re: floor in MH
Is your home a double or single? Are you having other symptoms of being unlevel, such as sticking windows, doors not closing correctly, etc? How long has it been since the home was relevled? Does the hump feel soft or spongy when you walk on it? If your in a double, is the hump near or on the marriage line where the two sections fit together? What year is the home? Tom
Re: floor in MH
Hi Tom, here are the answers to the questions you asked.
1)The home is a double.
2)The other symptoms of it not being level are one the counter tops in the kitchen is visibly high on one side. Also where the counter tops meet the wall there is a caulk line the length of the counter top. Where this line of caulk meets the wall the wallpaper is being pulled, this can be seen because of the wrinkles in the wallpaper.
3)Not sure if the house has ever been releveled. I've been living in it for 2 years now. It is a 1997.
4)The hump does not feel soft or spongy. It actually feels quite firm.
5)The hump is not near the marriage line. With the marriage line running east-west, the hump runs north-south. It is near the south wall and runs north for about 6 or so feet. I think the ground may have heaved in this spot. There is a complete concrete slab under the home (28x56). If this is what happened, what can be done to get rid of this hump?
6) I really think that all of these problems are from the ground shifting, even if it is just a little. The kitchen floor also makes a creaking noise when walking in there. Drives me nuts now but will probably get used to it (would rather fix it if possible).

Re: floor in MH
Not likely your having heave problems if your on a slab, unless the pad is not thick enough. But, it sounds like you may be unlevel, only way to tell is check it. The only way to get a look at this hump is to pull up the floor covering and get a look at it. The floor could be rotten, could be caused by being unlevel, etc. Have to start with the basics to eliminate possible causes. If your mechanically inclined, there is a kit you can purchase to check your level. Its available in the books and parts section at www.mobilehomerepair.com Tom
Re: floor in MH
its a lag bolt.Get someone to tighten the bolt on the underside of your home. They pull the joist down to the I-beam.That should sturdy the floor and stop the squeak.Do it in a 10ft section. The lags are usually a 1/2 inch and can be tightened with a socket.
