I have been told the reason the the homes in NY have 2 x 6 walls is because that is code in our state. You can no longer purchase a new MH with 2 x 4 walls in NY.
Threnody, are you pleased with your home?

You seem to have knowledge about Palm Harbors, so I was hoping you could reply here with some advice. I didn't know how else to ask you.

I am considering buying a Palm Harbor home, and of course the Greystone seems to be the best value. I was told it is cheaper than all the others because it's on a special summer sale price.
They even wanted me to give them a deposit in order to hold it at this price.
Well, I didn't feel real good about it, and I'm wondering if maybe the Greystone is just built cheaper than their other models, so they can have one to sell to customers on a lower budget, and their sale point is "oh, it's on sale".

Please let me know what you think about this.
I'm also interested in the Gotham as well.

Basically I want what everyone wants: Lots of space, great quality, and low price. :) So where do I get the best balance of these?

Thanks for everything.

is Hardi plank bad for you when you breath in the dust from it? I'm looking for information on Hardi plank. Because I'm working with it right now and would like to now more about it. If someone could help me out that would be really nice.

I too am looking at a small Palm Harbor home to be placed in northern Florida. I've read and heard that PH makes quality homes and the "standard upgrades" presented by the dealer include 2x8 floors (3/4" plywood) and 2x6 ext. walls/2x4 int. walls, tape & text. throughout except closets and utility rooms. I am likewise now considering Hardipanel to give the exterior an old board & batten look that is typical of turn of the century Florida homes. I considered log siding, but it appears to be very expensive and costly/troublesome to maintain. Can anyone give me pros and cons of the Hardipanel vs. removing the std. vinyl siding and having the exterior covered with stucco? I really do not like the std. vinyl siding and desire a more "site-built home" appearance. Yet, having lived through the eye of Hurricane Charley, I've seen new PH homes (and some other brands as well built to Wind Zone 3 codes) come out with little damage when some site-built homes were destroyed.
